Since December 2019, the IKW has been conducting research at the new Campus Maschinenbau Garbsen on the core issues of the energy transition, heat transfer and power plant engineering. Simulative and experimental research questions with application in energy and large-scale industrial technology are explored.

The research of the IKW is structured into a total of three fields of research. The field of power plant engineering, in which the core issues of the energy transition are researched, the field of heat transfer, in which fundamental research on the various heat transfer mechanisms is carried out, and the field of energy management in industry, in which a wide variety of industrial processes are investigated for their energetic optimizability.
