Thermal power plants - What are they capable of today? What role will they play in the future?

On September 27 and 28, 2018, the Institute of Power Plant Engineering and Heat Transfer, together with the Mining, Chemical and Energy Industrial Union (IG BCE), organized the conference "Thermal Power Plants" - What are they capable of today? What role will they play in the future.

Thermal power plants still represent the backbone of the power supply in Germany today. They are still irreplaceable for ensuring security of supply in the power grid, even when the supply of renewable energies temporarily exceeds the demand for electricity.

Storages for the energy transition - When do we need them? What have we got up our sleeves?

On September 28 and 29, 2017, the Institute of Power Plant Engineering and Heat Transfer together with the Institute of Electrical Energy Systems organized the conference "Storages for the Energy Transition" - When do we need them? What have we got up our sleeves? After kicking off the conference on Thursday evening with a guided tour of the Herrenhausen power plant, this question was discussed from various perspectives in a joint dialog with speakers from different business sectors and research areas and the audience.

Energy transition and waste incineration

On October 13 and 14, 2016, the Institute of Power Plant Engineering and Heat Transfer in cooperation with Energy from Waste (EEW GmbH) organized the conference "Energy Transition and Waste Incineration". The conference kicked off on Thursday evening with a guided tour of the waste utilization center in Hannover-Lahe. In the course of six presentations on Friday, the area of conflict between the social challenge of the German energy transition and waste disposal was discussed from the perspectives of an operator, a utility association, a heat customer, a plant manufacturer, environmental protection and a university institute.

Energy transition and industry

On November 27, 2015, the Institute of Power Plant Engineering and Heat Transfer in cooperation with the Stadtwerke Hannover organized the conference "Energy Transition and Industry" at the PZH in Garbsen. The focus of the conference was the area of conflict between industrial consumers and the changed power generation structures. Presentations from the steel, cement and automotive industries, as well as from electricity suppliers and grid operators, provided the basis for numerous interesting discussions.

Sustainable security of supply

On November 7, 2014, the Institute of Power Plant Engineering and Heat Transfer, in cooperation with the Lower Saxony State Initiative - Energy Storage and Systems as well as enercity AG, organized the conference "Sustainable Security of Supply" in Hannover. During the conference, topics on grid stability and supply security as well as the use of alternative power plant concepts were discussed against the background of the energy transition. Presentations from the fields of power generation, transmission system operators and federal authorities provided the basis for numerous interesting discussions.
